Using the keyboard on my new iPhone 8

Just curious to know if anyone else is having problems using the keyboard on their iPhone 8. I upgraded from a 5, where I wasn't able to anipulate the insertion point very well, and now on the new 8 I can't keep from changing the position of the insertion point when I'm trying to type in a password or anything for that matter. Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem? Guess I'll be posting n the rant board after I throw my phone. Grrr! Thanks if anyone can help, though.

The only thing I can suggest is to reset the accessibility settings to factory.
I'm not sure I understand whats happening however.
If you take it to the Apple or your providers store, they'll help.

i'm not sure what you mean by insertion. if you on your password, two finger double tap on the screen and use your keyboard to type in the password. otherwise, repare the keyboard again, or reboot voiceover, or restore the phone and start all over again.

It's the insertion point that keeps on jumping around. I changed typing mode to touch typing, but if I slide my finger over the screen it'll speak insertion point at start or end or that i's moving and I don't want it to move because I can't type in any useful information that way. I'm trying right now to see if there are options within typing mode to see if there's something I could switch, but haven't found anything yet.

i assume you mean where it starts and end. double tab on that where it says staart or end. if it is on the end, it will either go back to the start of line, or start of eddit. if it is on start of eddit, it will go to start of line or end. depends on what is your last typing posission, and what have you done since. but it usually have three different toggle for it to get back and forth to where you want to be.

Right. You can also tap it, then use your delete key to start over. I offtens do that.
I'm not sure about it moving though. It seems never to move.

Just thought I'd update, especially since I figured out a resolution to my issue. I had to disable 3D touch, but now I seem to be able to use the keyboard just fine. Thanks for your observations and insights.

Ah, then it wasn't moving.
You were typing to hard for the 3D touch.
You can make the sensitivity stronger if you weren't awear of that.
It is almost a necessary feature on some apps anymore.
Not completely, but it makes working some features possible.
On the next iPhone, maybe the 9 or X1 or whatever, we'll see the home button disappear, so 3D touch will be the only way to work things.
Now on the new X that is they way it will be.

Also, your new phones screen is really sensitive over what you were use to on the 5. Try lighter touches. You'll find it responds quickly, and you'll not make as many mistakes.

late to the game, but yes, pressing to hard on the screen with 3d touch active can move the insertion point making madness ensue! I will mention that 3d touch can be extremely useful so perhaps leave it off for a while, and see if you can develop a slightly softer touch, this is what I have done, and now use 3d touch quite often to do many tasks quickly.
HTH.

I had learned to type with my thumbs back when everyone did that with Windows Mobile and buttons. I still do, but I find my fingers are a lighter touch than thumbs. Not sure how to hold the phone and type with fingers, unless you hold with one hand and type with the other, but that was my problem. I am also learning to be lighter with my thumbs.

I hold my phone flat in one hand in the portrait or were the earpiece is at top and type with a finger of the other most times.
I've used a thumb on the same hand I'm holding the phone with too, but it isn't as easy, and I only do it if I really need to message or whatever and my other hand is carrying something.
I've not gotten use to typing in the landscape position although it might be better.
It makes the keyboard same as a computers that way.

if you have a 8 you can hold the hand with your hand and type it with your thum. but if you have a 8+ it is much harder. after all, 8+ is not really design for one hand phone, even though it says you can operate with one hand.
i suppose, it is all come down to how big is your hand and how long are your fingers. i have long fingers, so using one hand typing is not too bad of a stretch for me. mind you though, i have my phone lock on potrat mode, so, it is much easier to hold and type than if you have it on lanscape mode.

I think when they say one hand operation, they mean general things.
At least, I hope so.
Even with the 4.7, one hand is not going to work for everything no matter how big your hands are.
You need to swipe and such, and that's not possible one handed.

Having the same insertion point issue here with my braille sense, mostly when I use certain contractions like the lower F at the beginning of words for the word "to."

And one-handed typing used to mean ... jiggle the {mouse} with the other. Back in the AOL days in the 90s anyway.
